 Marco Polo is the greatest traveller in the world.
Silk Road was very important in Marco Polo's time.
 What was the Silk Road? In the Silk Road,travellers went from one great city to another,
crossing wide deserts and high mountains. Their horses and camels carried gold, silver,glass,
spices,and of course silk. The Silk Road was a 6500 kilometer-long route between China
and Europe. It started in the second century BC.
 We know a lot about Marco Polo but there are also many things that we don't know about him.
Marco's father and uncle belonged to a family of merchants from the city of Venice.
Marco's family was very rich. Marco's father and uncle traveled for years along the Silk Road
before Marco. In the time of Polo family, Mongols conquered so many different countries and
one of the strongest countries. People often think that the name,The Silk Road, is many hundreds of years old but this is not true. The word "The Silk Road" has used since 19 century to describe the different routes.
 Maroco's description became more famous after his death. He opened up the world for many readers.
No later travellers could ever write a book like The Description of the World.
